Paula Griepentrog, Professional Genealogist

Research Services

People often ask, "Why would someone hire a professional genealogist?"  Well, there are many good reasons!   Many people who are interested in knowing their family history simply do not have the time to undertake the task themselves. In terms of both time and money, it is often less expensive to hire a professional genealogist than to travel to the region your  ancestors lived and attempt the research work yourself.

Drawing upon my experience, I can often locate obscure information to help overcome particularly difficult hurdles in your research. I am well-versed in the repositories where genealogical information can be found and how to go about gaining access to that information.  I also have experience transcribing the old German script style handwriting used in early German church documents.  I am able to utilize this expertise to assist you in uncovering information these entries contain. I accept requests that range from simple document retrieval to intensive, on-site research.

I am able to assist you with all aspects of your family and local history research.  All of my research is performed "on-site" at the following research locations, to name a few:

The Area Research Center and Archives

There are 14 Area Research Centers throughout the state of Wisconsin, serving the various geographic locations.  The Area Research Center is the Wisconsin Historical Society's official repository for Wisconsin's collection of documents and public records.  For additional information on their holdings, please visit their website.

Local Public Libraries & Local History Departments

Obituary inquiries and local history research specific to the various Wisconsin counties.

LDS Family History Center

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints maintains a collection of microfilmed genealogical records from around the world.  If you have taken your genealogical research to the earliest U.S. progenitor and would like to investigate your ancestral lineage further, I can help!

Church Records

The state of Wisconsin did not have a state-wide vital records office until after 1907.  In this case, church records are the best source to learn vital information about our ancestors.  I have experience researching both Protestant and Catholic records.

Cemeteries

Digital photography of headstones and/or discerning the location of burial is available.

Register of Deeds Offices

Vital records research and copy services.

Every client's request is important to me!  If you do not see a specific genealogical service listed here, contact me and I would be happy to discuss your needs!
